Students earning this badge have attended the Data Science for All seminar on Telling Your Data Story Using Tableau and successfully completed the post-seminar assignment/quiz. This badge attests to the skills students have learned through the seminar and demonstrated through the post-seminar assignment using Tableau Desktop.
The course was initially developed and presented as part of the Data Science for All seminar series at San Jose State University by Dr. Scott Jensen in the Fall 2019 semester.
For a description of the seminar content, see the seminar page. In a nutshell, the skills learned (and covered by this digital badge) include:
- Importing data and adjusting data types, dimensions, and measures
- Creating charts, including line, area, bar, 100% stacked bar, box plots, and maps
- Filtering data, using the Marks Card, setting analysis options, and creating animations
- Creating parameters, sets, calculated fields, and level of detail (LOD) calculations
Students who have earned this badge demonstrated an understanding of the basics of working with Tableau, but also being able to analyze a question and identify the appropriate chart type for presenting their analysis. They have demonstrated skills in loading data, changing data types, and working with the Tableau interface to create different charts, including line, area, bar, 100% stacked bar, box plots, and maps. They have filtered data, used parameters, created sets, created calculated dimensions and measures, including level of detail (LOD) calculations. They have used various shelves on the marks card, and created animations.
